Vision Technologies is seeking a Lead Technician to lead teams installing copper and fiber optic cabling infrastructure in data center environments. This hands-on leadership role owns project execution—from reviewing engineering work packages and planning installations through testing, completion, and final documentation.
Working with the Supervisor and Project Manager, you will lead small, medium, and large installation projects while maintaining quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and excellent customer service.
What You’ll Do:
Lead Teams and Project Execution
- Lead day-to-day installation activities and direct technicians to complete the assigned scope of work.
- Review engineering work packages, drawings, and project requirements to develop the job layout and execution plan.
- Take ownership of assigned projects from initial planning through completion and closeout documentation.
- Coordinate with the Supervisor and Project Manager to deliver work according to project requirements and customer expectations.
- Complete accurate project paperwork and maintain organized installation and testing records.
- Follow established processes, installation standards, and safety requirements.
Install Data Center Cabling Infrastructure
- Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with applicable TIA/EIA and BICSI standards.
- Direct the assembly, installation, and securing of cable trays, racks, and cabinets.
- Perform grounding and bonding of telecommunications infrastructure using appropriate installation methods.
- Maintain Vision’s standards for installation quality and stay current with relevant technologies and installation procedures.
Test and Troubleshoot
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Operate copper cable testers, fiber optic power meters, and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs).
- Interpret test results, identify faults, and complete repairs to achieve valid, passing results.
- Save, download, and organize test results on the company network for project documentation and closeout.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in structured cabling or telecommunications installation.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proficiency in copper and fiber optic cable installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of fiber optic terminology, grounding and bonding principles, and applicable installation standards.
- Ability to lead installation teams and manage small, medium, and large projects as assigned.
- Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and documentation skills.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule based on project needs.
- Ability to drive a company vehicle throughout the workday.
- Completion of required background and driver’s license checks.
- Ability to meet security clearance requirements when required by the project.
Preferred Certifications
- BICSI Installer 2.
- Relevant industry or manufacturer certifications.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety training.
- Hilti powder-actuated tool certification.
- Confined space training or certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and climb ladders as required.
